Hallo Bart,
gistern tijdens kerstavond over geloof gediscussieerd (in familiekring). Interessant !
1) "niet geloven is ook een soort geloven" argument
heb ik uiteraard weersproken maar misschien heb je
nog een goede argumentatie ? (ik verweerde met :
het is alsof je beweert dat een kale man haar heeft)
2) wat is de woordenboek definitie van geloven ?
en wat vindt je ervan ?

Beste Theo,

De beste reactie op 'atheïsme is ook een geloof' is volgens mij: dan is kaalheid ook een haarkleur. Volgens het hedendaagse woordenboek van Van Dale is 'geloven': 1) vertrouwen in de waarheid van iets, of 2) vast en onwankelbaar geloof in God en Gods woord. In het grote woordenboek van Van Dale zijn beide betekenissen omgedraaid. De eerste is de 'dagelijkse' betekenis ("Ik geloof dat de trein over 10 minuten vertrekt."), de tweede een religieuze. Volgens de Bijbel is geloven "de zekerheid der dingen, die men hoopt, en het bewijs der dingen, die men niet ziet." (Heb. 11:1, NBG-vertaling). Ik denk dat dit het beste aansluit bij hoe gelovigen het woord gebruiken: ze geloven iets omdat er geen sterk bewijs voor is. Zie ook Joh. 20:29: "Zalig zij, die niet gezien hebben en toch geloven." Het spreek voor zich dat ik dat epistemologisch onverantwoord vind.
